Description
Sandeman 1958 Vintage Port
The 1958 vintage was not universally declared, yet in the right hands it has produced wines of considerable charm and longevity. Sandeman’s example offers a rare opportunity to experience a fully mature Port from the late 1950s.
In the glass, it shows a warm amber-garnet hue with a broad tawny rim, reflecting many decades of careful bottle ageing. The bouquet is beautifully evolved, revealing layers of dried cherry, fig and date, alongside notes of walnut, cedarwood, antique leather and gentle spice.
On the palate, the wine is graceful and harmonious. The structure has softened into a silky, rounded texture, while flavours of dark fruit compote, caramelised nuts and cocoa unfold steadily. There is a delicate sweetness, balanced by freshness, leading to a long, mellow finish with lingering spice and dried fruit character.
Now fully mature and drinking well, this is a bottle to enjoy rather than cellar further. Decant carefully to remove sediment and serve slightly cool.
A rare and evocative Port from the late 1950s — ideal for collectors of mature Sandeman or for marking a significant anniversary from this increasingly scarce vintage.
