Deep brown with a narrow, olive rim – nothing 'tawny' about this at all. Polished mahogany and mushroom with a touch of black tea, and dark chocolate. For all its aromatic maturity and highly surprising colour, this has lots of vigour on the palate, with crisp acidity bringing exceptional balance and life. I was expecting something dried-out and old, but this is far, far from that. Fig, caramel, spice, dark chocolate, cooked citrus fruit (yes, fruit!) and polished-wood complexity. Utterly compelling and very, very long. Perfect? Very close to it. (TJ)
