Description

The 2006 Pintia from Vega Sicilia is a powerful yet polished expression of Tempranillo from the Toro region. The vintage delivered deep concentration, and this wine captures it perfectly with intense dark fruit, mineral depth, and that trademark Pintia structure. Right from the first swirl, there’s an aromatic burst of blackberries, cassis and graphite, underpinned by subtle hints of cocoa and sweet spice.

On the palate, the 2006 shows remarkable balance for a Toro wine of this era. Rich layers of ripe plum, blueberry and dark cherry unfold over firm but refined tannins. There’s a wonderful interplay between fruit purity and bold oak influence, offering notes of espresso, cedar and a touch of vanilla. With air, the wine becomes silkier, revealing the elegance that Vega Sicilia manages to achieve even in their more robust labels.

The maturity here adds complexity rather than softness. Secondary notes of leather, forest floor, tobacco leaf and dried herbs begin to shine through, giving the wine a sophisticated, savoury depth. The structure remains intact, with bright acidity lifting the dense fruit and ensuring the wine stays vibrant despite its age.

This is a superb bottle for collectors or enthusiasts seeking a mature Toro red from one of Spain’s most acclaimed estates. The 2006 Pintia is drinking beautifully today, yet still carries ample life for further cellaring. It pairs wonderfully with rich dishes such as slow-roast lamb, beef short ribs or aged Manchego.
