The 1954 vintage was diabolical for Bordeaux and best avoided, although that's unlikely to be difficult now. Italy was okay and some very good Port was made although the vintage went undeclared.

Our Wine Expert currently recommends the following wines for this year:

  • Cantine Antonio Ferrari 1954 Il Barone 54 Solaria nr 5
  • Cossart Gordon Madeira 1954 Cossart Malmsey
  • Gattinara 1954 Borgo Car Ercole
  • Harveys Port 1954 Vintage Port

  •
This Year in History: Fun Fact: The first UK Wimpy Bar is opened at the Lyons Corner House in Coventry Street, London.
Top Grossing 1954 Movie: White Christmas

Italian: A moderate year for Piedmont.

Portugal: This year was a good vintage that is now very hard to find, and would make a perfect wine gift for a birthday or anniversary. Not a declared year, this Vintage has been fully mature for many years - however if well cellared, the best 1954 port wines will be fine for years to come.
