Barolo, 1969

Contratto, Barolo, Piedmont

1969 Barolo – Contratto (Piedmont)

The 1969 vintage is regarded as one of the standout years of the late 1960s in Piedmont, producing Barolo wines of structure, depth and notable ageing potential. From the historic house of Contratto, founded in 1867 and long associated with traditional Piedmontese winemaking, this bottle reflects a classical era when extended ageing in large oak casks and patient cellaring defined the style.

Tasting Notes:
Now showing a mature brick-garnet hue with amber highlights at the rim, the nose is beautifully evolved and layered. Aromas of dried cherry, rose petal and redcurrant intertwine with notes of leather, tobacco leaf and forest floor.

Barolo, 1969

C. Valletti, Barolo, Piedmont
Clearance Offer | Was £149 | Now £99

Barolo is known as the 'king of wines' and is made from the Nebbiolo grape. Heady aromas of rose, leather, vanilla, cherry, pepper, cranberry, strawberry. Fruits are perfectly knitted with the tannins and acidity. It's a powerful wine but remarkably subtle. Don't underestimate it and certainly serve it with food to show at it's best. Nebbiolo has naturally high tannins and acidity, so it will take on full-flavoured, rich foods no problem at all.
