Massandra, 1931
Livadia White Muscat- Sothebys Massandra Collection
Fortified Sweet Wine
Sothebys Massandra Collection
The wineries in Massandra were built during the reign of Czar Nicholas II. During the process, wine caves containing thousands of bottles were constructed beneath the city. This “personal wine cellar” of the Czar contained tens of thousands of bottles. These caves survived the Russian Revolution, both World Wars, the fall of Communism, and Yakov Smirnoff. In 1990, about 13,000 of these bottles – never before available in the West – were put to auction

Rebello Valente Vintage Port, 1931
Vintage Port Bottled by Robertson, DOC Douro
The 1931 Rebello Valente Vintage Port, bottled by Robertson, is an exceptionally rare and historic expression from one of the most remarkable and unusual years in Port history. The 1931 vintage is often described as “the vintage that never was” due to the global economic depression, which meant that very few shippers declared it despite it being considered outstanding in quality. As a result, surviving bottles are scarce, and those from respected houses like Rebello Valente—here bottled by the renowned firm Robertson—are highly sought after by collectors and connoisseurs.
In the glass, this near-century-old Port shows a deep mahogany-brown core fading to amber and green-gold at the rim, classic markers of a fully mature Vintage Port. …

Dow's, 1927
Vintage Port
Bottled by Page and Sandeman.
Provenance: Christies Sale Raby Castle
Bottled by Page & Sandeman, the Dow 1927 is one of the finest vintages of the last century. While a fair quantity was originally bottled, many have since been enjoyed, making it a rare treasure today. In the glass, the wine displays a beautiful light red hue and offers an exceptional drinking experience. Its inviting nose spreads beautifully from the decanter, revealing refined dark chocolate notes layered over subtle, elegant fruit. On the palate, it showcases creamy fruit, supported by tightly knit, spicy-peppery tannins that remain grippy and remarkably fresh. The finish is firm and dry, a hallmark of Dow’s distinctive style. …

Fonseca Port, 1927
Vintage Port Very Top shoulder | Slightly bin soiled label
Review by AHB - Portforum.com "A lovely rich red colour, warm and dark; 90% opaque. Showing little on the nose, but the little it is showing is warm and fruity — and very nice. A beautiful palate, soft entry with poise and balance. The fruit is generous, sweet and ripe and still plentiful. The palate is big and rich; stunning for a port of this age. The aftertaste is amazing — so full of fruit, of rich burnt fruitcake; mouthfilling and immense. This is stunning, stunning port.".
48 hours later a 6cl sample bottle was tasted which showed even mor ecomplexity, being sweeter and rounder than the pop 'n' pour version. …

Gould Campbell, 1927
Vintage Port, DOC Douro
Gould Campbell has come to establish a reputation for excellent quality of their Ports and their Vintage Ports in particular. Once described as the "Saab of Vintage Ports", a comparison to the good-value and totally reliable, with a touch of slightly quirky flair, Swedish motor-cars.
The vineyards used for Gould Campbell are based in the Alto Douro area where yields tend to be very low but the grapes produce Ports of immense complexity and depth. The winery is situated in Pinhão where modern temperature controlled fermentation tanks are used. However a significant proportion of Gould Campbell …

Martinez Vintage Port, 1927
Vintage Port (High Shoulder), DOC Douro
Port Forum Martinez vertical AHB Notes.
Golden orange with a pale rim, 20%. Sweet nose of fragrant orange and hibiscus flowers - expressive and delicious. Later this became sweeter and more balanced. Lightweight on entry, with sweet golden sultanas. On the mid-palate and late palate there is more acidity that provides fragrance and balance. A touch of tannin shows as a hint of dryness on the palate; quite light overall. A huge aftertaste, then a big finish of green wood that lasts for ages. 93/100.

Taylor Fladgate, 1927
Vintage Port - UK bottled Whitwams
Very Top Shoulder
Taylor’s 1927 vintage port is one of the most sought-after and expensive of all vintage Ports, and this wine, from an acclaimed vintage, is at the top of the tree. Now nearly one hundred years later, this is one of the most sublime and most sought after ports.
Critics reviews:
95 Points James Suckling. " This blows the '35 off the table. It is incredibly concentrated yet superbly balanced. It lives up to Taylor's lofty reputation. Taylor Fladgate, 1924
Vintage Port, DOC Douro Unlabelled ID from cork. Excellent provenance Level Very Top Shoulder.
‘Just a notch deeper in colour than the 1912. The nose is divine: intense, beautifully defined, very Taylor’s. Quite spicy, dried orange peel, cigar box, a touch of sandalwood. Gains perfume in the glass but after 30 minutes has gone back into its shell. The palate is full-bodied, very concentrated, more viscous than the 1912. Notes of ginger, apricot, fig, licorice. Lovely ripe orange-tinged finish that goes on and on. Very sensuous; beautiful poise on the fruit.’

Tuke Holdsworth, 1924
Vintage Port
Tuke Holdsworth was the brand name of the old shipper Hunt Roope & Teage, the former owners of Quinta da Eira Velha. The company was sold to Ferreira in 1956 but the quinta was retained by the family and from that point it supplied wines to Martinez and Cockburn.
Quinta da Eira Velha is one of the oldest estates in the Douro Valley. It is believed that vines have been cultivated at Eira Velha for over 600 years. The vineyard and buildings occupy a southeast-facing slope between 160 and 390 meters above the confluence of the Douro River with its tributary, the Pinhão River.
In 1893 it was purchased by the prominent Port wine merchant Cabel Roope. …

Vintage Port
Pale tawny brown at the core, fading to amber with olive highlights at the rim. Faultless nose, extraordinarily complex, with notes of cedar, tobacco and orange flower perfectly intertwined, a sumptuous mellow undertone of molasses and butterscotch and a halo of fresh, minty herbal scent. An hour after decanting, the wine opened up an exotic spice chest of nutmeg, black pepper, cumin and, tobacco, later joined by coffee, aromatic wood and dried rose petal.
