Description
1982 Amarone della Valpolicella – Cantina Sociale Valpolicella (Veneto, Italy)
A fully mature, classically made Amarone showing velvet warmth and layered rancio-tinged complexity. Deep mahogany-garnet with a tawny rim. The nose is autumnal and complex: dried cherry and fig, date and prune, blood orange peel, cocoa, espresso, walnut and sweet spice with a gentle balsamic/cedar lift. The palate is broad, silky and enveloping; dried-fruit richness framed by mellow acidity and resolved tannins. Hints of bitter chocolate, chinotto, kirsch and clove glide into a long, warming finish of dried cherry, cocoa and orange zest.
Producer note: Bottled by the Valpolicella growers’ cooperative in a traditional register—air-dried grapes (appassimento) and long cask ageing—emphasising savoury depth, dried-fruit perfume and a graceful, food-table style at maturity.
Serve: 16–18 °C. Stand upright 12–24 hours; gentle decant to remove sediment just before pouring.
Food pairing: Aged Parmigiano-Reggiano, blue cheeses, braised beef or oxtail, venison with polenta, dark chocolate desserts.
