Description
1982 Château Beauregard comes from the legendary 1982 Bordeaux vintage, and this mature Pomerol now offers a beautifully evolved, classical profile. With over forty years in bottle, it has moved into its peak tertiary phase, trading youthful power for nuance, silkiness and harmony.
In the glass, the wine shows a brick-garnet core with a wide, gently fading rim. The bouquet is complex and inviting: dried red berries, cedar, leather and forest floor, intertwined with truffle, tobacco leaf and a touch of cigar box. Hints of violets and sweet spice linger in the background, adding lift and refinement.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied, supple and beautifully resolved. The tannins are fine and fully integrated, carrying flavours of dried cherry, plum compote, earth, savoury herbs and a subtle mocha note. Acidity is soft but still present enough to keep the wine in balance, leading into a long, savoury, gently tapering finish.
This is a contemplative, fully mature Pomerol best enjoyed at a quiet dinner rather than as a showpiece “trophy” bottle. Serve at cellar temperature, ideally after a gentle, short decant to remove sediment. A charming opportunity to taste a classic Right Bank Bordeaux from one of the most celebrated vintages of the twentieth century.
