  • Description

1982 Château Canon-la-Gaffelière hails from one of the most iconic Bordeaux vintages of the twentieth century and offers a beautifully mature expression of Saint-Émilion. After more than four decades in bottle, this wine has moved into a graceful, tertiary phase, where subtlety, perfume and texture take centre stage.

In the glass, it shows a translucent brick-garnet hue with an amber rim. The nose is refined and complex: dried redcurrant and cherry, cedar, cigar box and leather, layered with hints of truffle, autumn leaves and a touch of warm spice. There is a gentle floral lift, with dried violets and a whisper of lavender adding further elegance.

On the palate, it is medium-bodied, silken and fully resolved. Fine, feather-light tannins carry flavours of dried cherry, plum, savoury herbs and earthy undertones, with a discreet graphite note from the Cabernet Franc component. Acidity is soft but still supportive, framing a long, savoury, gracefully tapering finish that speaks of both terroir and time.

This is a wine for quiet appreciation rather than power, ideal for those who enjoy fully mature claret in its most nuanced form. Serve at cellar temperature after a very gentle decant to remove sediment. A rare opportunity to experience a classic Saint-Émilion from the legendary 1982 vintage, offering delicacy, complexity and old-world charm in equal measure
