Description
1982 Château du Tertre is a fine, fully mature expression of Margaux from one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated vintages. After more than four decades in bottle, it has transitioned from youthful power to a wonderfully graceful, aromatic style, where perfume, finesse and subtle complexity are the defining features.
In the glass, it shows a pale brick-garnet colour with a wide, amber-tinted rim. The bouquet is delicate yet intricate: dried redcurrant and cherry, cedar and pencil shavings, with notes of cigar box, leather and autumnal undergrowth. Classic Margaux florals—dried rose petal and a touch of violet—hover in the background, adding lift and elegance.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied and silken, with very fine, resolved tannins. Flavours of dried cherry, red plum and soft cassis are interwoven with savoury hints of leaf, tobacco and gentle spice. Acidity is soft but still supportive, keeping the wine in balance and guiding it through to a long, ethereal, slightly earthy finish that lingers quietly on the palate.
This is a wine for those who appreciate the charm of fully mature claret rather than sheer power. Best served at cellar temperature after a careful, brief decant to remove sediment. A rare chance to enjoy a classic Margaux from the legendary 1982 vintage—subtle, refined and beautifully composed.
