Description
Barbera 1984 Salvano e Sobrero is a historic red wine from Piedmont, Italy, produced by the traditional estate Salvano e Sobrero in the Langhe area. Barbera is one of Piedmont’s most important native grapes, historically valued for its deep color, lively acidity, and versatility, often vinified in a more rustic, traditional style during this period.
The 1984 vintage reflects a classic mid-1980s interpretation of Barbera, typically fermented and aged in large neutral casks, with a focus on drinkability, structure, and regional character rather than modern concentration or oak influence.
Tasting Notes:
Brick-ruby color with garnet reflections. Dried cherry, sour plum, and red currant, followed by leather, tobacco, and earthy notes. Subtle spice and faded herbal tones.
Medium body, soft tannins, still-bright acidity. Balanced, gently fading finish.
Serving & Food Pairing:
Serve at 16–18°C, with light decanting if needed.
Pairs with roasted meats, braised dishes, pasta with rich sauces, mushrooms, and semi-aged cheeses.
Producer:
Salvano e Sobrero is a traditional Piedmontese producer associated with Langhe wines, working with native varieties such as Barbera and Nebbiolo in a classic, regionally rooted winemaking style.
