Description
The Barolo DOC 1965 Marchesi di Barolo is a historic and highly collectible Nebbiolo wine from one of the most legendary producers in Piedmont, Italy. Coming from a classic era of traditional Barolo production, this vintage has matured gracefully over more than five decades, offering a rare and authentic expression of aged Barolo.
Tasting Notes:
The 1965 vintage is fully evolved and deeply complex, showing the remarkable ageing capacity of Nebbiolo. On the nose it reveals aromas of dried roses, cherry preserve, leather, tobacco, truffle, forest floor, balsamic notes, and sweet spices. With gentle aeration, additional nuances of cedarwood, dried herbs, and earthy minerality emerge.
On the palate it is elegant, harmonious, and refined, with softened tannins and integrated acidity supporting the wine’s mature savory profile. The fruit is delicate and tertiary in character, leaving space for layers of earthy complexity and subtle spice. The finish is long, silky, and contemplative, typical of mature traditional Barolo.
Serving & Food Pairing:
Best served at 18°C. Given its age, careful handling and gentle decanting are recommended only if necessary to separate sediment. It pairs beautifully with:
braised beef
roasted game
truffle-based dishes
porcini mushroom risotto
aged hard cheeses
