Description
1987 Barolo – S. Biagio di Roggero (Piedmont, Italy)
A poised, fully mature Barolo that leans into perfume and finesse. Brick-garnet with a broad tawny rim. The nose lifts with dried cherry and cranberry, rose petal and violet, cedar and sweet tobacco, touched by orange peel, tea leaf and a gentle tar/balsamic note. Mid-weight and savoury on the palate: lively, old-school acidity carries red-cherry fruit, dried herbs and subtle leather; tannins are fine and resolved, giving a silky, tapering finish of cherry skin, cedar spice and dried flowers.
Producer note: S. Biagio di Roggero is the Roggero family’s historic La Morra estate, bottling under the “San Biagio” name for generations (first own labels traced to the 1920s). Vineyards include classic La Morra sites such as Bricco San Biagio, Sorano and Capalot, with a traditional Barolo style shaped by long cask ageing and bottle rest.
Serve 16–18 °C; stand upright 12–24 hours and very gently decant for sediment just before pouring.
Food Roast chicken with herbs, tajarin with butter and sage, porcini risotto, aged pecorino.
