Description
The 2013 Barros Colheita Port is a youthful yet already beautifully expressive single-vintage Tawny Port from one of Portugal’s most established producers. Crafted from high-quality grapes grown in the Douro Valley, it was aged in seasoned oak casks for nearly a decade, allowing it to develop character and depth while retaining bright, fresh fruit notes.
In the glass, this Colheita shows a golden amber hue with copper highlights. The nose opens with aromas of orange peel, dried figs, hazelnuts, and soft caramel, backed by hints of vanilla and spice from the time spent in wood. There’s a lovely lift and brightness to the bouquet, hinting at the freshness still present in the wine.
On the palate, it is smooth and well-balanced, with flavours of toffee, dried apricot, roasted nuts, and a touch of clove. The texture is silky, and the natural acidity gives the wine a clean finish, making it both complex and approachable. While less intense than older Colheitas, it offers a clear expression of its vintage and the Barros house style.
Ideal for drinking now, the 2013 Barros Colheita makes an excellent digestif or accompaniment to desserts such as almond tart, crème brûlée, or blue cheese. It also makes a thoughtful gift for birthdays and anniversaries from the 2013 vintage. Best served slightly chilled to highlight its aromatic profile.
