Description

The Brunello di Montalcino DOC 1976 La Chiesa S. Restituta is a rare historic Tuscan red wine from the area of Montalcino. Produced from 100% Sangiovese (Brunello), it reflects the traditional style of Brunello in the 1970s: structured, long-lived, and built for extended bottle aging with slow aromatic evolution.

Tasting notes:

The 1976 vintage is now fully mature and deeply tertiary. The nose opens with aromas of dried cherry, sour plum, leather, tobacco leaf, dried rose petals, and forest floor. With aeration, additional layers of earth, sweet spice, dried herbs, cedarwood, and balsamic notes emerge.

On the palate it is evolved, elegant, and harmonious, with tannins now fully softened and integrated. The natural acidity of Sangiovese still provides structure and freshness, while the fruit has transformed into savory, dried-fruit, and earthy tones. The finish is long, refined, and gently austere, typical of well-aged traditional Brunello.

Serving & food pairing:

Best served at 16–18°C, with very gentle handling and minimal or no decanting.

It pairs well with:

Braised beef
Roasted lamb
Game dishes (wild boar, hare)
Mushroom risotto
Aged Pecorino and hard cheeses
Producer:

La Chiesa di Santa Restituta is a historic estate in Montalcino, located in one of the most important areas for Brunello production. The winery is associated with traditional Brunello winemaking focused on longevity, structure, and expression of the Tuscan terroir, particularly in classic vintages such as the 1970s.
