Description
Brunello di Montalcino 1981 – Orazio Bagnasco
The 1981 Brunello di Montalcino from Orazio Bagnasco is a beautifully mature and traditional expression of Sangiovese, offering elegance, complexity and gentle power after decades of ageing. The colour shows a soft garnet core with brick-orange hues at the rim, highlighting its graceful evolution.
On the nose, the wine is deeply aromatic and layered. Dried cherry, red plum and cranberry are supported by notes of leather, tobacco, forest floor and dried herbs. Subtle hints of balsamic, cedar, orange peel and gentle spice add further refinement and depth.
The palate is smooth, balanced and finely structured. The tannins are fully resolved, creating a silky texture that carries flavours of dried red fruits, tea leaf, earthy spice and savoury herbs. Fresh acidity gives the wine lift and clarity, keeping it lively and beautifully composed.
The finish is long, elegant and quietly persistent, leaving lingering impressions of dried fruit, leather and gentle spice. This is a Brunello that reflects classic Tuscan character and patient cellaring.
This mature Brunello pairs wonderfully with slow-cooked beef, lamb or wild boar, as well as rich pasta dishes such as pappardelle with ragù. It is also an excellent match for mushroom and truffle-based dishes, roasted game birds and aged Pecorino or Parmigiano Reggiano.
A refined and fully mature Brunello offering balance, complexity and timeless charm. The 1981 Orazio Bagnasco is a superb example of traditional Brunello ageing beautifully, delivering subtle power, harmony and great drinkability today.
