Description

The 2012 Burmester Colheita is a beautifully composed single-harvest Tawny Port, matured in seasoned oak casks for over a decade before bottling in 2023. As with all Colheitas, this wine captures the essence of a single vintage, offering a unique snapshot of the 2012 harvest. Burmester, one of the most historic and elegant houses in the Douro, brings its hallmark finesse and purity to this aged Tawny expression.

In the glass, it presents a glowing amber hue with golden edges, hinting at its gentle maturity. Aromas are delicate yet layered — toasted almonds, orange peel, dried apricots, and warm spices intertwine with notes of caramel and fine oak. The palate is smooth and medium-bodied, offering a harmonious balance of sweetness and freshness. Rich flavours of fig, soft toffee, and hazelnut are lifted by a streak of citrus acidity, giving the wine energy and poise.

Unlike younger Ruby or Reserve Ports, this Colheita is more about subtlety and evolution than primary fruit. The extended barrel ageing has softened the structure, delivering a silky mouthfeel and a long, elegant finish. As it opens up, you may notice hints of vanilla, cinnamon, and a gentle woodiness that lingers gracefully.

Ideal served lightly chilled, the 2012 Burmester Colheita pairs exceptionally well with creamy blue cheeses, nut-based desserts, or even simple roasted almonds. It also shines on its own as a contemplative digestif. Once opened, the wine remains fresh for several weeks thanks to its oxidative ageing — making it a practical and luxurious indulgence for any Port lover.
