Description
Vintage Background
The 1984 vintage in Paarl delivered ripe, classically styled reds under warm Cape conditions. Nederburg, one of South Africa’s most historic and respected estates, was already recognised for producing some of the country’s finest Cabernet Sauvignon. With four decades in bottle, this wine represents a rare glimpse into South Africa’s winemaking heritage during the 1980s.
Tasting Note
Now fully mature, this Cabernet Sauvignon shows a brick-garnet hue with a gentle tawny rim. The bouquet carries dried blackcurrant, cedar, tobacco leaf and earthy spice, while the palate is supple and savoury, with softened tannins and mellow fruit tones of plum and cassis. The finish is smooth and understated, offering charm and authenticity rather than power.
