Description
1986 Château Climens is a rare and exquisitely preserved Barsac, showcasing the estate’s hallmark purity, finesse and near-magical ability to age. Now approaching four decades in bottle, it has developed a glorious golden-amber hue that shimmers with depth and concentration—classic of long-matured Sémillon from this iconic Premier Cru.
The nose is extraordinarily complex and beautifully evolved. Layers of candied citrus peel, apricot tart and quince jelly merge with notes of honeycomb, saffron, toasted almond and crème brûlée. Subtle hints of chamomile, polished wood and dried pineapple bring an exotic lift, reflecting the wine’s slow, graceful maturation.
On the palate, the 1986 Climens is opulent yet refined, showing the electric acidity that defines the best Barsac. Silky textures carry flavours of dried apricot, orange confit, honeyed peach and warm spice, wrapped in a gentle sweetness that has mellowed into harmony with age. The finish is long, luxurious and quietly powerful, unfolding in waves of citrus, spice and honey.
This is a spectacular mature sweet wine for contemplative enjoyment or pairing with blue cheeses, foie gras, tarte tatin or nut-based desserts. A rare opportunity to experience a perfectly aged Climens from a vintage that continues to display remarkable vitality and elegance.
