Description
The 2000 Château Haut-Brion is a masterpiece of the vintage and one of the most profound expressions ever produced by this First Growth estate. The wine opens with an extraordinary bouquet—blackcurrant, plum and warm blackberry layered with cigar box, graphite, truffle, smoked earth and a touch of violets. The aromatics are incredibly deep, refined and endlessly evolving, showing both power and quiet sophistication.
On the palate, the 2000 Haut-Brion is seamless and multi-dimensional. A luxurious core of dark fruit is wrapped in ultra-fine tannins, delivering a texture that feels almost weightless despite the wine’s formidable depth. Flavours of cassis, black cherry, cocoa and warm gravel are complemented by notes of tobacco leaf, mineral spice and subtle oak. The balance is impeccable, combining richness, freshness and perfect poise.
With time in the glass, further layers emerge—leather, cedar, pencil lead, roasted herbs and a gentle savoury warmth that highlights the wine’s Graves origins. The structure remains vibrant and energetic, suggesting decades of further life ahead. The finish is exceptionally long and resonant, lingering with polished fruit and a distinctive smoky-mineral elegance.
A truly great Haut-Brion, the 2000 vintage stands among the estate’s modern legends. Majestic, harmonious and built for the long term, it is already breathtaking but will continue evolving gracefully for another 20–30 years. A remarkable bottle for collectors, major celebrations or any moment worthy of one of Bordeaux’s greatest wines.
