Description
2000 Tenuta di Trinoro Toscana IGT
Overview:
A standout expression of the early Super Tuscan era, the 2000 Tenuta di Trinoro captures Andrea Franchetti’s bold and uncompromising vision for Bordeaux varietals grown in Tuscany. Produced predominantly from Cabernet Franc alongside Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, this powerful vintage reflects the warmth and concentration of the 2000 growing season while retaining remarkable structure, complexity and ageing potential. Now entering full maturity, it offers a seamless integration of fruit, oak and tertiary development.
Appearance:
Deep garnet with an inky core and subtle brick evolution at the rim, showing both concentration and graceful maturity.
Nose:
Intense and expressive, revealing layers of blackberry, cassis and dried dark fruits intertwined with dried violets, cigar box and exotic spice. With aeration, further complexity emerges through graphite, espresso, leather and balsamic nuance, giving the wine notable depth and sophistication.
Palate:
Full-bodied, opulent and richly textured, with dense dark fruit supported by velvety tannins and impressive structural depth. Flavours of blackcurrant, plum and black cherry are layered with notes of espresso, cedar, graphite and dark chocolate, while emerging tertiary tones of leather, truffle and savoury spice add maturity and complexity. Despite its richness, the wine remains balanced and harmonious throughout.
Finish:
Long, powerful and persistent, lingering through dark fruits, spice, tobacco and earthy Tuscan nuance.
Decanting:
Decant for 1–2 hours before serving at 17–18°C to allow the wine’s bouquet and layered complexity to fully emerge.
About the Estate:
Tenuta di Trinoro, founded by the visionary Andrea Franchetti in the remote Val d’Orcia region of Tuscany, became one of Italy’s most influential cult estates through its bold interpretation of Bordeaux varietals. Produced in very limited quantities, the wines are renowned for their concentration, richness and individuality, earning an international reputation among collectors of top-tier Super Tuscan wines.

Reviews
Robert Parker (Wine Advocate): 95/100
"Extraordinary intensity, great richness, a profound, multi-layered texture, and a finish that lasts for nearly a minute. This is compelling wine from a brilliant proprietor."
Wine Spectator: 90/100
"Full-bodied, with sweet yet chewy tannins. Jammy, but very concentrated. More like an Amarone."
Vinous: 95/100
"As hard as it may seem to believe, the 1998 Tenuta di Trinoro is even more concentrated than the 1997. Showing overt varietal Cabernet Franc notes on the nose, it is a more nuanced wine than its older sibling, with a deeply expressive core of sweet dark fruit that blossoms on the palate with exceptional length and superb persistence."
