Description

Château Carbonnieux 1999 is a beautifully mature example from one of Pessac-Léognan’s historic estates. The 1999 vintage produced elegant, aromatic wines with supple tannins, and Carbonnieux was among the standout successes. Now with over 25 years of age, this claret has reached full drinking maturity, offering nuance, balance, and classic Graves character.

The nose opens gracefully with notes of ripe redcurrant, cedar, graphite and gentle smoke—hallmarks of the gravelly soils of Carbonnieux. Subtle hints of dried herbs, leather and autumnal forest floor add further complexity. With air, the wine reveals a charming sweetness of fruit, lifted spice and a touch of cigar box.

On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, smooth and harmonious, with softened tannins and a refined texture. Flavours of red cherry, plum and savoury spice unfold in layers, supported by a refreshing line of acidity that keeps the wine lively. There is real elegance here, with a measured, understated style typical of mature Pessac-Léognan.

Perfectly mature and drinking at its peak, 1999 Carbonnieux offers tremendous value for those seeking fully evolved Bordeaux. It pairs beautifully with roast poultry, duck, lamb or mushroom-based dishes. A graceful, classic Graves red that showcases the charm and balance of the 1999 vintage.
