Description

1976 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande
A beautifully mature Pauillac from one of Bordeaux’s most respected Second Growth estates, the 1976 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande reflects the warmth of the vintage while retaining the château’s hallmark elegance and refinement. With decades of bottle age, the wine now offers a complex and fully evolved expression of mature Left Bank Bordeaux.
The bouquet is layered and savoury, with aromas of cedarwood, tobacco leaf, leather, dried blackcurrant and forest floor complemented by hints of cigar box, spice and earthy minerality. Subtle notes of truffle and mature dark fruit emerge with time in the glass, adding further depth and complexity.
Smooth and harmonious on the palate, the wine shows softened tannins and a graceful structure, carrying flavours of cassis, dried fruits, cedar and gentle spice through to a long, elegant finish. The warm conditions of the 1976 vintage brought richness and concentration, while the château’s refined style preserved freshness and balance throughout its long maturation.
Now fully mature, the 1976 Pichon Lalande is best enjoyed over the coming years. Serve at 16–18°C and decant gently to remove sediment if necessary.
An excellent companion to roast lamb, game dishes, beef tenderloin, mushroom-based cuisine or aged hard cheeses.
Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is one of Pauillac’s most celebrated estates, renowned for producing wines that combine the structure and longevity of the Médoc with uncommon finesse and elegance. Often considered among the finest of Bordeaux’s Second Growths, the estate has built a reputation for wines of depth, complexity and exceptional ageing potential.
