Description

The 1985 Château Pontet-Canet is a beautifully mature Pauillac from a charming Left Bank vintage, offering elegance, balance and the kind of classical character that long-time Bordeaux lovers treasure. The wine opens with a graceful bouquet of dried blackcurrant, cedar, cigar box and soft leather, lifted by notes of graphite, forest floor and a touch of violet. It is fragrant, refined and unmistakably Pauillac.

On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and silky, with the tannins now fully resolved after four decades of ageing. Gentle flavours of cassis, redcurrant, dried plum and earthy spice unfold slowly, supported by subtle hints of tobacco, old oak and savoury herbs. The texture is smooth and harmonious, showing maturity without fading.

As the wine evolves in the glass, more tertiary complexity emerges—notes of truffle, pencil shavings, warmed earth and dried flowers add depth to its delicate fruit core. The finish is long, soft and quietly persistent, carrying classic Left Bank nuances that linger with understated confidence.
