Description
The 1985 Château Angludet is a charming example of mature Margaux from one of the most graceful vintages of the 1980s. Owned by the Sichel family, Angludet has long been admired for its consistency and value, offering classic Médoc character with a refined Margaux touch. The 1985 vintage in particular benefited from an ideal growing season, producing wines of balance, warmth, and approachability that have aged gracefully.
Now nearing 40 years of age, this Angludet is fully mature, displaying a soft garnet hue with bricking at the rim. The nose is aromatic and nuanced, with notes of dried red berries, leather, tobacco leaf, and potpourri. Secondary and tertiary aromas—cedarwood, underbrush, and a faint note of soy or game—emerge with time, reflecting its evolution in bottle.
On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and gently textured, with softened tannins and a lingering sense of warmth. Flavours of dried cherry, cranberry, and earthy spice dominate, with hints of mushroom, tea leaf, and old wood lending further complexity. There is a quiet persistence on the finish, underscored by balanced acidity and a classic Margaux lightness of touch.
This wine is best enjoyed now, ideally within the next few years, as it is in the twilight of its maturity. A brief 20–30 minute decant is sufficient to open up its delicate bouquet. Pair with roast chicken, duck breast, or simple mushroom-based dishes to complement its aged, savoury profile.
