Description

The 1983 Chateau Rieussec and one of many decent wines produced in Bordeaux in this year. Colour rusty, deep gold. A beguiling bouquet of apricot, honey, molasses, old English Christmas cake, toffee and smoke. A beautiful texture in the mouth, weighty, viscous and satiny. Very rich, toffee, honey, treacle and poached pears and apricots. Very ripe but with sufficient acidity to hold it all together. Complex and multi-layered.

Château Rieussec is a prestigious Bordeaux wine estate located in the Sauternes appellation, within the Bordeaux wine region of France. The estate is well-known for producing sweet white wines, specifically Sauternes, which are crafted from Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscadelle grapes affected by noble rot.

Noble rot, or botrytis cinerea, is a beneficial fungus that dehydrates the grapes, concentrating sugars and flavors, resulting in rich, complex, and sweet wines. Sauternes wines, including those from Château Rieussec, are highly regarded for their sweetness, complexity, and aging potential.

Château Rieussec has a history dating back to the 18th century and has been classified as a Premier Cru (First Growth) in the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855. Over the years, it has established itself as one of the top producers of Sauternes wines.
