Description

1986 Château Rieussec is a beautifully evolved Sauternes from one of the appellation’s most respected Premier Cru estates. Nearly four decades on, it has reached a point of extraordinary harmony, displaying a deep amber-gold colour that reflects both concentration and graceful ageing.

The bouquet is opulent and layered, opening with aromas of marmalade, dried apricot, quince paste and honeyed pineapple. Beneath the fruit lie richer notes of crème caramel, toasted hazelnut, saffron and sweet spice, along with a subtle smokiness that comes from long bottle maturation. It’s a nose that continues to unfold with air, offering new nuances at every turn.

On the palate, the 1986 Rieussec is lush, silky and remarkably balanced. The sweetness has integrated beautifully, allowing the wine’s vibrant acidity to shine through and keep everything lifted. Flavours of candied citrus, peach compote, honeycomb and butterscotch glide across the palate, supported by gentle spice and a touch of dried tropical fruit. The finish is long, warming, and wonderfully persistent.

A superb choice for lovers of mature Sauternes, this bottle is ideal for festive celebrations, cheese boards, or pairing with rich desserts such as tarte tatin, crème brûlée or almond pastries. A rare and rewarding example of aged Rieussec at its peak.
