Description
Château Rieussec 2010 – Sauternes, 1er Cru Classé
The 2010 Château Rieussec is a magnificent expression of Sauternes from an outstanding modern vintage, combining richness, purity and remarkable balance. The colour is a deep golden amber, already luminous and inviting, yet still youthful in character.
The nose is intense, complex and beautifully precise. Aromas of honey, apricot, pineapple and peach are layered with orange marmalade, saffron, toasted almond and gentle vanilla. As it opens, notes of crème brûlée, candied citrus peel and subtle spice add further depth and luxury.
On the palate, the wine is rich and unctuous yet perfectly balanced by vibrant acidity. Flavours of tropical fruit, honeyed stone fruit, citrus zest and caramelised sugar unfold with great clarity, supported by a silky, mouth-coating texture. Despite its sweetness, the wine never feels heavy, instead remaining fresh, poised and elegant.
The finish is very long, pure and persistent, leaving lingering impressions of honey, citrus, spice and gentle nuttiness. This is a Sauternes of real class and longevity.
This Rieussec pairs beautifully with foie gras, blue cheeses such as Roquefort, apricot or peach desserts, tarte tatin, and crème brûlée. It is also superb on its own as a meditation wine at the end of a meal.
A superb, luxurious and beautifully balanced Sauternes with outstanding ageing potential. The 2010 Château Rieussec is a benchmark example of modern Sauternes excellence, delivering richness, elegance and long-term promise.

***Neal Martin for The Wine Advocate, Tasted April 2014***
The 2010 Rieussec was missing a little intellect when I tasted it from barrel. Now in bottle it has become a contender for the finest Sauternes of the vintage. It is blessed with a pure and lifted bouquet with ripe peach, nectarine and honey, hints of shaved ginger poke their head above the surface with aeration. It is very subtle. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, perfectly judged acidity and convincing harmony. This is a sophisticated Sauternes with superb mineralite and outstanding persistency. I will confess that I pinned this as “Yquem” and was both shocked and pleased when its identity was revealed. Go buy. Drink 2016-2035+.
