The 2The 2010 Vieux Télégraphe "La Crau" is a benchmark Châteauneuf-du-Pape that exemplifies the strength of a great vintage and the character of one of the region’s most iconic terroirs. Sourced from the stony plateau of La Crau, this wine is a traditional blend dominated by Grenache, with Mourvèdre and Syrah playing supporting roles. The vintage itself was outstanding in the Southern Rhône, marked by ideal ripening conditions that produced wines with both power and balance.

On the nose, the 2010 vintage delivers a complex and expressive bouquet. Aromas of ripe red berries, black cherries, and crushed herbs mingle with earthy tones of leather, dried flowers, and pepper. There’s also a distinctive minerality—often described as a stony or saline note—that reflects the galets roulés (large pebbles) of the La Crau vineyard. This aromatic depth sets the stage for a serious and structured palate.

In the mouth, Vieux Télégraphe 2010 shows a full-bodied profile with firm, grippy tannins and vibrant acidity. Flavours mirror the nose, with layers of red and black fruits, hints of liquorice, garrigue herbs, and smoky undertones. While the wine is muscular and dense, it avoids excess weight, staying fresh and elegant. The finish is long, savoury, and mineral-laced, indicating its strong aging potential.

Now at 15 years of age, this wine is entering its prime drinking window, though well-stored bottles could continue to evolve gracefully for another 5–10 years. It pairs beautifully with rich dishes such as roast lamb, duck confit, or game, and it also complements earthy vegetarian fare. For Rhône enthusiasts and collectors, the 2010 Vieux Télégraphe "La Crau" remains a standout expression of traditional winemaking and one of the best vintages of the past two decades

It was Henri Brunier who gave birth to this beautiful family story in 1891, in the village of Bédarrides, well known today for holding the south-eastern part of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. That year, he donated to his son Hippolyte, plots of land located on La Crau, a place considered at that time as uncultivable, so much so that the density of rolled pebbles made the soil ungrateful.
The latter planted his first vines on this dominant plateau, where the wine-growing vocation dates back to the 14th century and where in 1821, Claude Chappe, inventor of the optical telegraph, installed one of his relay towers. Jules, son of Hippolyte, increased the heritage to 17 hectares and gave the fruit of his work the apt name of “Old Telegraph”.

The vineyard, with an average age of 70 years, is located on the famous Crau plateau, a mecca for viticulture in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
This terroir gives our wines a very particular minerality, as if they had been filtered through the thick layer of rolled pebbles, left behind when the Alpine glaciers melted, well before the formation of the Rhône Valley.
