Description

Geografico, 1980 Chianti

A mature and characterful Chianti from a classic era of Tuscan winemaking, the 1980 Geografico offers a rare opportunity to experience fully evolved Sangiovese with developed complexity and gentle elegance.

Tasting Note
The nose is resolved and nuanced, showing dried red cherry, cranberry and plum skin, layered with notes of leather, dried herbs, tobacco and earthy spice. On the palate, the wine is soft and harmonious, with savoury dried fruit, subtle balsamic notes and forest floor complexity. The tannins are fully resolved, giving a smooth, mellow texture and a graceful, lingering finish.

Food Pairing
Best suited to classic Tuscan dishes such as slow-cooked meats, roast poultry, mushroom-based recipes and aged cheeses. Also enjoyable on its own as a contemplative, mature wine.

Serving & Drinking Window
Serve at 16–18°C. Decant carefully just before serving to remove any sediment. Drinking at full maturity and best enjoyed now.

Why We Love It
Well-aged Chianti offers a unique expression of Sangiovese, where freshness gives way to savoury depth and tertiary character. This 1980 Geografico is a rare and authentic example of traditional Tuscan wine at full maturity.
