Description

The Chianti DOCG 1994 Poderi del Nonnonanni Agrinico is a traditional red wine from Tuscany, Italy. Produced by Poderi del Nonnonanni Agrinico, it reflects the classic Chianti DOCG style of the early 1990s: Sangiovese-driven, food-oriented, and balanced between rustic character and the growing refinement of modern Tuscan winemaking. Wines from this period typically emphasized drinkability, regional identity, and compatibility with everyday cuisine rather than heavy extraction or oak influence.

Tasting notes:

The 1994 vintage is now fully mature and showing developed tertiary complexity. The nose opens with aromas of dried sour cherry, plum skin, violet, leather, tobacco leaf, and dried herbs. With aeration, notes of forest floor, balsamic spice, tea leaf, and faint earthy minerality may appear.

On the palate it is smooth, evolved, and harmonious, with Sangiovese’s natural acidity still providing structure and freshness despite its age. Tannins are now fully resolved and integrated. The fruit has evolved into savory dried-fruit and earthy tones, supported by hints of spice, dried flowers, and subtle herbal notes. The body is medium-light, and the finish is medium in length, gently fading with lingering earthy and leathery nuances.

Serving & food pairing:

Best served at 16–18°C. The bottle should be stood upright before opening to allow sediment to settle. Minimal decanting is recommended due to the wine’s mature and delicate profile.

It pairs well with:

Pasta with meat or tomato-based sauces (especially ragù)
Roasted poultry and rabbit
Grilled or braised pork
Mushroom risotto or porcini dishes
Semi-aged pecorino cheeses
Traditional Tuscan cuisine (ribollita, pappa al pomodoro)

Producer:

Poderi del Nonnonanni Agrinico is a Tuscan wine producer associated with Chianti production during the late 20th century. Wines like this DOCG bottling reflect the region’s continued evolution toward higher quality standards while maintaining a strong connection to traditional Sangiovese-based winemaking and regional food culture.
