Description

Cognac, 1875
A Marie Brizard & Roger Fine Champagne Cognac
Vintage 1875

The 1875 vintage belongs to the final quarter of the 19th century — a time when traditional double distillation in Charentais pot stills and long ageing in seasoned French oak defined the greatest Cognacs. From the Fine Champagne designation — a blend of Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne eaux-de-vie — this Marie Brizard & Roger bottling represents both refinement and structure, drawn from two of the region’s most esteemed crus.

Marie Brizard & Roger, founded in the 18th century, was long associated with fine spirits and international trade. A vintage Cognac from 1875 is an extraordinary historical survivor, offering a direct link to the craftsmanship and patience of a bygone era. Over nearly a century and a half, extended maturation has shaped the spirit into something profoundly rare and evocative.

Tasting Notes:
Now a deep mahogany amber with copper and olive reflections, the bouquet is intensely layered and contemplative. Aromas of polished walnut, antique oak and dried fig unfold alongside notes of tobacco leaf, leather and caramelised orange peel. With time in the glass, hints of cocoa, spice and subtle rancio emerge, adding remarkable depth. On the palate it is poised and harmonious, the texture silken despite its venerable age. Flavours of toasted almond, dark toffee and dried fruits develop slowly, leading to an exceptionally long, warming and refined finish.

Serving & Enjoyment:
Serve neat at room temperature in a tulip-shaped glass to concentrate the aromatics. Allow time for the spirit to breathe and reveal its full complexity. A Cognac of this stature is best reserved for the most significant occasions, savoured slowly and thoughtfully.

Summary:
An extraordinarily rare 19th-century Fine Champagne Cognac, the 1875 Marie Brizard & Roger offers profound maturity, elegance and historical depth — a remarkable survivor from the golden age of Cognac.
