Description

Corbières DOC 1966 Château de Villenouvette is a red wine from Corbières, Languedoc, France, produced by Château de Villenouvette, a historic estate with centuries of winemaking tradition in the Languedoc region. The 1966 vintage exemplifies the classic southern French style: robust yet elegant, with complexity and depth developed through decades of careful aging.

Tasting Notes:
The wine presents a garnet-red color with brick-orange hues along the rim, characteristic of a well-aged Corbières. The bouquet is complex and refined, offering aromas of dried blackberries, black cherries, and subtle red fruits, layered with tertiary notes of leather, cedar, garrigue herbs, and hints of spice and earth. Gentle aeration enhances the wine’s depth and brings out subtle balsamic and mineral undertones.

On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, with smooth, integrated tannins and balanced acidity. The finish is elegant and persistent, showcasing dried dark fruit, gentle spice, and refined earthy notes, reflecting both the grape composition—typically Carignan, Grenache, and Syrah—and careful maturation over more than fifty years.

Serving & Food Pairing:
Serve at around 16–18°C, decanting carefully if sediment is present.

Pairs beautifully with hearty Mediterranean dishes, such as roasted or braised meats, game, ratatouille, cassoulet, and medium-aged cheeses. Its refined complexity also allows it to be enjoyed on its own as a contemplative tasting experience.

Producer:
Château de Villenouvette is renowned for producing Corbières wines that combine structure, elegance, and aging potential. The 1966 vintage demonstrates the estate’s traditional craftsmanship and the expressive character of Languedoc terroir.
