Description

Hine Grande Champagne Cognac, 1935
Shipped & Bottled by Saccone & Speed Ltd, London

The 1935 vintage in Cognac was produced during a period of steady recovery and renewed craftsmanship between the wars. From the prestigious Grande Champagne cru — the most highly regarded terroir of the region for producing refined, long-lived eaux-de-vie — this Hine Cognac reflects both pedigree and remarkable ageing potential.

Founded in 1763, Hine has long maintained close ties with the British market, and the indication that this Cognac was shipped and bottled by Saccone & Speed Ltd of London adds an important historical dimension. Saccone & Speed were renowned wine and spirit merchants, known for selecting and maturing fine Cognacs for discerning British clientele. Bottlings of this nature often reflect extended maturation under British cellaring conditions, contributing to their distinctive character and rarity.

Tasting Notes:
Now a deep amber with mahogany highlights, the nose is richly evolved and elegant. Aromas of dried apricot, fig and polished walnut are layered with notes of antique oak, cigar box and caramelised citrus peel. With time in the glass, nuances of cocoa, leather and gentle spice emerge. On the palate it is supple and harmonious, the texture silky and composed. Flavours of toasted almond, toffee and dried fruits unfold gradually, leading to a long, warming and refined finish.

Serving & Enjoyment:
Best served neat in a tulip-shaped glass at room temperature. Allow time for the Cognac to open and reveal its full aromatic depth. A distinguished after-dinner spirit, ideal for contemplative enjoyment.

Summary:
A rare pre-war Grande Champagne Cognac from Hine, shipped and bottled by the esteemed London merchants Saccone & Speed, the 1935 vintage offers maturity, elegance and historical resonance — a refined expression of Anglo-French heritage in a glass.

Since many years Hine has upheld a tradition of making good vintage cognacs, mostly made of Grande Champagne. Many of them were early landed, late bottled cognacs: cognacs that were shipped to Great Britain one or two years after the distillation to ageing them in the humid warehouses near the chalky coasts of England. These have a reputation of being very elegant and well balanced.
