Description
The 1955 Kopke Colheita Port is a rare and distinguished single-harvest tawny port from the oldest port house in existence. Aged in seasoned oak casks for nearly seven decades, this exceptional wine encapsulates Kopke’s enduring commitment to craftsmanship and slow oxidative ageing—hallmarks of the finest Colheita expressions.
Harvested in 1955 and matured gently in wood until bottling, this wine offers a captivating window into the past. Its amber-brown colour, tinged with olive-green hues at the rim, reflects its long maturation. On the nose, it unveils a richly developed bouquet of dried apricot, roasted hazelnut, toffee, cedarwood, and caramelised orange peel, interwoven with subtle notes of antique furniture, tobacco leaf, and baking spice.
The palate is deeply complex yet harmonious, with a silky, almost weightless texture that delivers layers of flavour—walnut liqueur, burnt sugar, fig jam, and cinnamon-dusted almond praline. A fine line of acidity keeps the wine vibrant, balancing its natural sweetness and contributing to a finish that lingers with notes of citrus zest, espresso bean, and aged oak.
Despite its venerable age, the 1955 Kopke Colheita retains remarkable freshness and clarity, standing as a testament to both the exceptional quality of the vintage and Kopke’s mastery in long-term cask ageing. Each bottle is individually numbered, reinforcing its collectible nature and provenance.
Ideal served slightly chilled (12–14°C), this wine pairs exquisitely with aged hard cheeses, pecan pie, crème brûlée, or even savoury dishes such as duck pâté with fig compote. Its structure and concentration also make it a superb contemplative sipper on its own. Once opened, it will remain stable for several months if properly stored.
The 1955 Kopke Colheita Port is a timeless expression of aged tawny port—an elegant synthesis of tradition, patience, and terroir. For connoisseurs and collectors alike, it offers a deeply evocative drinking experience, bridging the past with the present in every glass.
