In keeping with the legacy of Kopke – the oldest Port wine house, 2019 is “a firm, fresh and intense Vintage that shows great balance”, says Carlos Alves, Head winemaker for Fortified wines.

Concentrated and with a deep dark colour, fresh and exuberant on the nose with layered notes of black fruit, this Vintage stands out for its structure and balance, whilst delivering firm tannins, true to the style of Kopke's Vintage Single Quinta. Its crispy acidity combined with the layered Flavours of fruit fresh make this wine engaging, and the intense finish anticipates great ageing potential.

Located on the left bank of the Douro river, in the Cima Corgo subregion, experienced a
winemaking year lled with contrasts: an extremely dry and cold winter, followed by heavy
rain in the spring and early summer, with occasional hail. When summer came at last, it
brought the hottest August and September months of the last decade, with average
maximum temperatures of 35.8°C recorded at the weather station of Quinta de São Luiz.
Despite the high temperatures of the summer, the leaves protected the berries from sunburn
and the vines were able to extract the much needed water and nutrients from the soil. By
the time the harvest started the grapes were in great health and perfectly ripe.
For this Vintage we selected grapes from the lower and middle lots of the hill, with north /
north-west solar exposure, and only from vines planted between 110 and 135m altitude. The
blend includes 50% of Touriga Nacional, conferring it freshness and notes of fruit, and 50%
of Old Vines (80 years old or more), which give the wine assertiveness, concentration and

92+ Points MArk Squires - Wine Advocate July 2021
The 2019 Vintage Port Quinta S. Luiz is a single-quinta Porto that is a 40/60 blend of Touriga Nacional and a field blend from old vines (over 80 years old). Bottled in June, it comes in at 100 grams per liter of residual sugar. This is a step up on its sibling, the Burmester this report, in terms of structure and concentration, but it doesn't have the Burmester's glorious freshness, not that this is so shabby in that department. Tasting them side by side, though, you can't ignore the better depth here. Moderately intense and pure, this is pretty delicious too, while adding a fair share of power. It should age reasonably well, while also being accessible fairly young. With some air, it actually drank pretty well, but it was tight again the next day. As Port lovers know, Ports close down and go through stages. Ultimately, this is a wine with a higher upside potential than the Burmester, but at the moment, the Burmester is far more attractive and easier to read. This will win in the end, but we are a long way from the end just now. They are both impressive single-quinta offerings in very different styles. This is set for release at the end of July 2021, after bottling on April 19, 2021.

From Touriga Nacional from the lower and middle parcels on this estate in the Cima Corgo with a field blend of very old vines (over 80 years old); very deep in colour; rather sullen initially on the nose but with berry fruit and menthol ripeness opening up on the nose and on the palate, firm gripping tannins with a spicy, linear finish showing the vitality and freshness of the year. 4153 bottles declared. 17
