Description

Martinez Vintage Port 2000 is a beautifully crafted wine from one of the Douro’s historic houses, offering depth, elegance and superb value from this outstanding declared vintage. The 2000 growing season delivered concentrated fruit and excellent balance across the region, and Martinez produced a wine of notable purity and structure. Now with a quarter-century of bottle age, it is entering a glorious phase of early maturity.

The nose is rich and expressive, showing aromas of black cherry, mulberry and ripe plum, layered with hints of dark chocolate, liquorice and warm spice. Subtle notes of fig, dried herbs and violet add further complexity, reflecting both the quality of the vintage and the traditional Martinez style.

On the palate the wine is full-bodied, smooth and poised, with generous dark fruit flavours supported by firm yet well-integrated tannins. A fresh acidity lifts the core fruit, while the sweetness remains beautifully balanced. The mid-palate shows lovely intensity, tapering into a long, warming finish with lingering notes of cherry compote, cocoa and gentle spice.

Drinking wonderfully now, but capable of further ageing, the 2000 Martinez represents outstanding value for anyone seeking mature Vintage Port without the premium of the bigger names. Perfect for festive occasions, cheese boards, rich chocolate desserts or savoured slowly by the fire. A refined and rewarding expression of a superb vintage.
