The Quinta da Devesa 2000 White Colheita Port is a beautifully aged single-vintage white port that showcases the elegance and complexity possible in aged white fortified wines. Harvested in 2000 and matured in seasoned oak casks for over two decades, this wine reflects the craftsmanship and patient cellaring philosophy that define Quinta da Devesa’s approach to Colheita production. Made from traditional Douro white grapes—including Côdega de Larinho, Rabigato, Viosinho, and others—this port captures the expressive potential of white varieties in a slow-oxidative style.

Visually, the wine presents a luminous golden amber color with greenish highlights, characteristic of long barrel aging. On the nose, it opens with enticing aromas of caramelized citrus peel, beeswax, dried white fig, golden sultana raisins, and a touch of herbal lift, evoking notes of chamomile and mountain honey. Hints of vanilla pod, toasted almonds, and fine oak round out the aromatic profile, which continues to evolve in the glass.

The palate is wonderfully textured and balanced, with a velvety mouthfeel that is lifted by fresh acidity. Flavors of orange marmalade, lemon curd, nut brittle, toffee, and baked pear intermingle seamlessly. A savoury touch of spice and mineral tension adds intrigue, while the long, clean finish showcases notes of salted caramel, dried apricot, and a gentle citrusy zing. The wine's balance of richness and freshness makes it particularly compelling for both sipping and pairing.

Though not yet as mature as Devesa’s 1960s and 1970s white Colheitas, the 2000 vintage shows excellent integration and poise, offering a great entry into the world of aged white port without requiring the collector’s budget. It’s a refined expression that bridges freshness and complexity, suitable for immediate enjoyment or further cellaring.

Best served slightly chilled (10–12°C), this wine pairs beautifully with creamy cheeses (such as Brie or goat’s cheese), honey-glazed nuts, custard tarts, almond cake, or tropical fruit desserts. It also works exceptionally well as an aperitif or post-dinner sipper. Thanks to its oxidative aging style, the wine remains stable for 3 to 4 months after opening when stored correctly.

The Quinta da Devesa 2000 White Colheita Port is a testament to the potential of white ports to age gracefully and deliver as much depth and sophistication as their tawny counterparts. It's an ideal bottle for connoisseurs, adventurous wine lovers, and those exploring the growing prestige of aged white Colheita ports.
