Description
1976 Santenay
Overview:
A mature red Burgundy from the Côte de Beaune, the 1976 Santenay comes from a warm vintage that produced accessible, early-maturing styles. Now fully evolved, it shows the graceful, tertiary expression of aged Pinot Noir, with softened fruit and a gentle savoury complexity.
Appearance:
Light garnet in colour with brick-orange highlights at the rim, showing full maturity and delicate evolution.
Nose:
Evolved and expressive, revealing red cherry, dried strawberry and cranberry, with rose petal, tea leaf and subtle umami savoury notes. Hints of dried herbs and gentle spice developing with aeration.
Palate:
Light to medium-bodied, supple and fully resolved, with silky tannins and an elegant, open texture. Flavours of red cherry, dried strawberry and cranberry are supported by floral lift and gentle savoury complexity. The structure is delicate but balanced, with a refined, mature Pinot Noir profile.
Finish:
Elegant and moderately long, with lingering notes of red fruit, floral tones and soft savoury nuance.
Decanting:
Stand upright for 24–48 hours prior to opening to allow sediment to settle. Decant carefully through a fine strainer immediately before serving at 16–18°C. Fragile corks are common with wines of this age; any cork fragments should be removed during decanting.
