Bordeaux: The top Bordeaux wines from 1950 are prodigious and outstanding, the two best appellations being St Emilion and Pomerol. The 1950 wines are unbelievably rich, unctuous and concentrated and in many cases are capable of rivaling the greatest of the 1949 and 1947 vintages. Any examples of these which have been kept with care would make a good 71 year old wine gift for a birthday or anniversary this year.
Italian: Long lived 1950 wines, such as Barolos from the Piedmont region, have stood the test of time and are still drinking well in what was a fair-to-good vintage.

Chateau Climens, 1950
1er Cru Classe Barsac
The 1950 Chateau Climens has a lovely nose of mandarin, orange-blossom and a touch of peach, although to be honest it is not a million miles better than the ’69. A little “smudged” by alcohol. The palate has a ripe, citrus and mandarin inspired entry, vibrant palate with good depth, touches of quince and barley sugar towards the finish.
Château Climens is a renowned estate located in the Barsac appellation within the Sauternes region of Bordeaux, France. Château Climens is known for producing sweet white wines, often made from Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscadelle grapes affected by noble rot. …

Sauternes
The 1950 Château Grillon represents a unique opportunity to experience an aged Sauternes wine. Its complexity, depth, and sweetness, balanced by acidity, make it a remarkable example of the enduring quality of Sauternes wines. Enjoying such a wine is a special occasion, offering a glimpse into the history and tradition of Bordeaux winemaking.
Château Grillon is a lesser-known producer in the Sauternes appellation of Bordeaux, famous for its sweet dessert wines made primarily from Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscadelle grapes affected by noble rot (Botrytis cinerea). 1950 was a challenging year for Bordeaux as a whole, but Sauternes often performs better in less-than-ideal conditions due to the unique characteristics of noble rot. …

Cockburn Port, 1950
Vintage Port
Very faded labels
Reviews
"Surprisingly good depth of colour: mid-deep centre with a thin browning rim; lovely, pure scented, floral aromas, esteva (gum cistus) still fresh and fragrant; gentle, sweet fruit, still lithe, creamy milk chocolate intensity, long and fine with peppery length. Lovely balance and one of the best 1950s that I have tasted. Wyndham Fletcher (ex-Cockburn’s) described this as a ‘useful rather than a great year’. " Richard Mayson, 2012 Richard.mayson.com

Madeira, 1950
Unknown Shipper BOAL
Madeira is a complex, interesting wine and is made in virtually every vintage. Due to the unique estufagem aging process Madeira is one of the longest-lived wines and also improves for days after opening, but will keep, once opened, for a month and more in a decanter. Medium orange amber color with 1 millimeter clear meniscus; appealing, light coffee, almond, reminiscent of Moroccan bastilla on the nose with a hint of passion fruit; tight, silky textured, tasty, balanced, rounded, tart orange, tart passion fruit palate with a vague sense of light salt; long finish.

Madeira, 1950
MBV - Tinta Negra - Bottled by Barbeito
This is a rare and very limited release of the 1950 Madeira from the family cellars. The bottles are in perfect condition. There is something ethereal about tasting such a rare vintage. The 1950 Tinta Negra is very dry as one would expect from this style of Madeira. There is a huge amount happening on the complexity front with some bitter nut skin notes with dried flowers and citrus pith. Although quite dry, this does not come across as too severe. An electric wine that is astonishingly refreshing. Massive finish that goes on and on.

Madeira, 1950
Justino's - Sercial
Founded in 1870, Justino’s is one Madeira’s oldest producers. This mature 1950 Sercial madeira wine is made from the noble sercial variety with grapes sourced from all over the island. The wine is fortified with neutral distilled grape spirit and aged in wood where it’s gently heated in a process known as estufagem to create the signature style.
This 1950 vintage Sercial Madeira resembles a Tawny Port in colour, yet the nose has pronounced citrus aromas, and as the wine ages the aromatic profile becomes similar to old dry Rieslings. The palate is dry, starts with lemons and oranges and develops nutty flavours with maturity. …
