Quinta de Terra Feita Vintage Port

Quinta de Terra Feita's vines have been supplying Taylor Fladgate with the highest quality grapes for over a hundred years.

This famous old estate is one of the most substantial properties in, what is considered by many, to be the finest wine producing area of the Upper Douro. The Quinta is situated on the western slopes of the Pinhao River Valley. With over 61 hectares under vine it produces 1,300 hectoliters of port wine.

The wines of Terra Feita are all produced in traditional granite lagares on the property. This ancient method still produces the best quality wine; the gentle action of the foot carefully extracts the maximum colour, fruit and tannins from the wine. …

Vintage Report:
After a mild June, July and August were hot and dry, leading to good even maturation, with the Tinta Barroca looking particularly promising. Maturation studies carried out between 19th August and the beginning of the vintage, determined the following picking order at Vesuvio: Old vineyards; Tinta Barroca; Tinta Amarela; Tinta Roriz; Touriga Nacional; Tinto Cão; and Touriga Franca. Picking began on the 21nd September and continued until 4th October; great care being taken to select and vinify the very best fruit separately, once perfect ripeness had been achieved. Grape quality was very good with average sugar readings an excellent 12o-13o Baumé. …

Nacional Vintage Port, Douro

Quinta do Noval is a much-venerated name in the Douro Valley and Nacional is undoubtedly one of the most legendary fortified wines in the world. Rich ruby color that is nearly opaque. It presents notes of strawberry, molasses and others mentioned root beer which I did not really get, but thought was worth noting. This Nacional displays excellent concentration and structure, with medium to full-bodied juice. It possesses young blackberry fruit with a unique balsamic component, and shows its fine balance and some powerful tannins that will allow this wine to age for a few decades. In undeclared vintages Fonseca bottle Panascal, provided the quality of the fruit is sufficient. This has a good depth of colour, with a moderate red-tawny hue. The nose has exotic notes of musky scent and spiced woods, together with some chocolate edged fruit. The palate has an impressive texture and sweetness immediately apparent on entry. Despite its thoroughly traditional-sounding name Churchill is the newest of the British-owned Port companies, founded in 1981 by J. Graham.

Quinta Agua Alta is named after the spring at the top of the vineyard and it produces wonderfully pure and fresh water that bubbles up through the granite rock below the thin top soil. Olives and figs grow in abundance around the vineyard which produces a quite stunninly powerful port.

Deep purple in colour with a mass of soft and concentrated fruit. There's plenty of tannin to give structure and a pleasing earthiness on the finish. This is the perfect way to round off a good dinner. …

​The 1983 Taylor's Vintage Port is a distinguished example from one of the most esteemed Port houses, reflecting the unique characteristics of that year's growing season. The winter of 1982/83 was notably cold, with February bringing rare snowfall to Pinhão, a phenomenon not seen in two decades. Despite a cold August, a hot September provided favorable conditions for the harvest, which commenced on October 3rd. Winemakers at the time noted satisfactory color extraction and exceptionally aromatic musts. ​
