This Sherry wine, was bottled in 1950, An intense sherry that is matured in an oxygen present environment. The resulting wines are fragrant and the best examples will display dried fruits, leather, polished wood and exotic spices. The 1948 Taylor's has a strong tawny colour. On the nose there was a wonderful coffee, chocolate and tobacco. With an alluring herbal aroma. On the palate this port has a luscious feel on the palate and incredibly complex layers of caramel, chocolate and coffee. This continued with an incredible long persistent finish. High shoulder

The Croft 1935 has a noticeably deep mahogany hue with light amber rim. This is the oldest Croft with vestige of fruit lingering on the nose with hints of macerated red cherry, figs, balsam and liquorice. Complex and compelling, with very good lift. The palate is simply outstanding with immense depth and complexity, beautiful sense of natural balance and harmony with spice, Manuka honey and dates. Long, seductive and irresistible, it is difficult to image exactly how port can be much better than this imperious Croft ’35. Brilliant.

From the excellent 1935 Vintage, Bottled to commemorate George V Jubilee. The port is tawny with some red in colour. Showing little on the nose, perhaps some hints of concentrated redcurrant. Smooth and concentrated on entry; full bodied and with good weight. Blossoms beautifully in the mouth, develops and grows. Explodes on the aftertaste with huge fruit flavours dominating - mature and sweet. Incredible finish! An astonishing wine. After 5½ hours in the glass this had even developed hints of tannins!

"This brings back a fond memory of a long lost friend, Paul Napolitano from NY. He once opened this identical Port for me years ago at his home and at the time, it was the finest Colheita I had experienced, as well as the oldest. This one was bottled in 1976 or 1977. A piece is torn off the label and makes it impossible to be certain. Dark coffee color with a greenish edge. Is this Madeira? A nose of bouillon cube, scents of sea breeze and toffee, reminiscent of a Malvasia and the richness and supple spine live up to that mindset. The palate is packed with copious caramel and fig flavors along with prunes and toffee intricately woven into a neat little package. …

La Reserve College Cellars Vintage Port, DOC Douro
