Niepoort Port, 1900

Colheita Port, DOC Douro

Reviews
"This brings back a fond memory of a long lost friend, Paul Napolitano from NY. He once opened this identical Port for me years ago at his home and at the time, it was the finest Colheita I had experienced, as well as the oldest. This one was bottled in 1976 or 1977. A piece is torn off the label and makes it impossible to be certain. Dark coffee color with a greenish edge. Is this Madeira? A nose of bouillon cube, scents of sea breeze and toffee, reminiscent of a Malvasia and the richness and supple spine live up to that mindset. The palate is packed with copious caramel and fig flavors along with prunes and toffee intricately woven into a neat little package.

Whitwhams, 1880

Millennium Port
1880 Colheita Port Bottled by Niepoort in 2002

Cristiano van Zeller (ex Quinta do Noval) discovered the 1880 Port in 1999 at a winery in Regua (River Douro) that was closing following the death of the owner. Cristiano was interested in acquiring stone lagares (foot treading tanks) for his new winery but they also asked if he was interested in any old stock. Most was uninteresting but at the rear of the winery were three 20,000 litre casks, two empty but one containing 10,000 litres of 1880 port, 10,000 litres having evaporated during the intervening 119 years. The intention was to bottle the wine as 100 year old (for the millennium) but that

La Reserve College Cellars, 1871

La Reserve College Cellars Vintage Port, DOC Douro

The 1871 La Réserve College Cellars Vintage Port is an almost mythical bottle, representing more than 150 years of Douro winemaking history. Crafted just six years after the end of the American Civil War and during the reign of Queen Victoria, this wine comes from an era when Port was made entirely by hand—grapes foot-trodden in granite lagares and transported downriver by rabelo boats. Surviving examples of any 19th-century Vintage Port are rare; a bottle from 1871 in collectible condition is a true treasure, offering a direct, liquid connection to the Douro’s golden age.

In the glass, a Port of this age would likely display a deep mahogany-brown core shading to amber and green at the rim, a classic indicator of extreme maturity.

Burmester

Sotto Voce Reserve Ruby Port

The Burmester Sotto Voce Reserve Ruby Port is a vibrant, expressive wine that pays tribute to the classic Ruby Port style, enhanced with a touch of extra ageing and finesse. “Sotto Voce” — meaning “in a soft voice” — suggests the wine’s elegance and quiet depth, offering a more polished interpretation of a traditionally bold style. Produced from a blend of premium Douro grape varieties, this Reserve Ruby showcases Burmester’s ability to craft Ports of both structure and charm.

Deep ruby in colour, the wine bursts with aromas of ripe red and black fruits — cherry, plum, and blackberry — laced with subtle notes of violet and dark chocolate.

Quinta do Noval, Non Vintage

Noval Tawny Port
Bottled in 1974

This Quinta Do Noval Tawny Port is a style of fortified wine characterised by its amber colour and complex flavour profile that develops from extended aging in wooden barrels. Such wines are typically less fruity and more nuanced compared to Ruby Port and reveal amber colour with aromas of dried fruits, toasted nuts, caramel, and occasionally a hint of spice or vanilla. On the palate it should be smooth and balanced, with notes of nuts, dried fruits (such as figs and raisins), caramel, and hints of citrus peel.

Serving & Food Pairing
Tawny Ports are ready-to drink and do not require decanting.

Sandeman, Non Vintage

Royal Corregidor 20 Year Old Oloroso

Appearance
Very deep yet transparent blacky brown fading through oak gall ink to amber at the rim, legs.

Nose
There is a distinct aroma of age here with considerable depth and complexity. The nose is dry and serious with lots of old oak and walnuts and even a hint of spice, yet traces of fruit and cinder toffee from the PX. There is even the slightest trace of licorice. Such complexity can only come from very old soleras.

Palate
The first material sign of sweetness starts here with old PX richness but the wine is a good bit less sweet than a Cream. The PX is probably there to balance out any astringency from the very old Oloroso, and there is certainly not much astringency now;
