Leacock, 1892
Sercial Madeira
John Leacock sailed to Madeira from the United Kingdom (after the death of his father) in 1741 and at the age of 15 became the youngest apprentice at the firm of Madeira merchants, Catanach and Murdoch, staying until his contract expired on 11 March 1749. During his apprenticeship, he had been in constant contact with an old-school friend, John Patient, residing at that time in Charlestown, South Carolina who suggested that they themselves should commence trading. Leacock agreed and this marks the birth of the now world famous company.

Chillingworth and Son Vintage Port, 1890
Vintage Port, DOC Douro
High Shoulder - Bottled 1893
The *1890 Chillingworth & Son Vintage Port* is an extraordinary and historic wine, offering a rare glimpse into the craftsmanship of 19th-century Douro winemaking. Produced in an era when viticulture and vinification were entirely manual, this Port has survived more than 130 years, evolving into a masterpiece of aged fortified wine. Bottles from this vintage are exceptionally scarce, making it a true collector’s prize and a living piece of Port history.
In the glass, it presents a deep amber-tawny core with a green-tinged rim, the unmistakable signature of great age in Vintage Port. The nose is profoundly complex, with layers of dried fig, sultana, and medjool date alongside rich molasses, toasted walnut, and exotic spice. …

D'Oliveiras Madeira, 1890
Verdelho Madeira
*** 96 Points Robert Parker ***
"The 1890 Verdelho has an elegant, refined bouquet that is pure and seductive. It offers precise aromas of orange peel, tangerine, dried honey and wax resin with great delineation. The palate is very well-balanced with impressive clarity and poise. It builds nicely in the mouth with tangy, oxidative notes that are perfectly in tune with the sweetness. This illustrates just how well Verdelho ages over decades. This is a stunning 122-year-old Madeira." The Wine Advocate

Madeira, 1885
Barbeito bottled - Verdelho, Madeira
This is a rare and limited release of the 1885 Madeira from the family cellars. The bottles are in perfect condition having been bottled from demijon in 2018.
The 1885 was originally procured from the Afonso family and comes from Camo dos Lobos vineyards.
There is something ethereal about tasting such a rare vintage. The 1885 Verdelho is very dry as one would expect from this style of Madeira. There is a huge amount happening on the complexity front with some bitter nut skin notes with dried flowers and citrus pith. Although quite dry, this does not come across as too severe. An electric wine that is astonishingly refreshing. …

Scholtz Hermanos Malaga, 1885
Solera 1885, Jerez
Believed to be mainly Pedro Ximén style. Figs, raisins, molasses nose and flavour of PX, but a certain freshness and elegance could be a pointer towards some Moscatel too. Long ageing has made the wine perfectly integrated and delicious with an array of cheeses.

Graham's Port, 1882
Ne Oublie, DOC Douro
The Symington family has released 656 bottles of a Port that dates back to the arrival of their great-grandfather Andrew James Symington in Portugal in 1882.
The family have named this wine ‘Ne Oublie’ after the original Graham’s family motto and for the company where Andrew Symington started his life’s work. The name reflects the respect with which the family regard their great-grandparents’ joint decision to commit themselves and their descendants to Portugal, to the Douro and to Port.
Now 130 years later his direct descendants have bottled one of the remaining three barrels. The other two barrels have been entrusted to the next generation of the family and it is they who will decide their future, in 2025 at the earliest. …

Martinho Port, 1881
Vintage Port (level base of neck), DOC Douro
The 1881 Martinho Vintage Port is an extraordinary and almost mythical bottle, representing more than 140 years of Port history. Produced in the Douro in the late 19th century—a time when Port was still made entirely by hand, using traditional stone lagares and foot-treading—this wine is a living testament to the craftsmanship of the era. The survival of a bottle in such remarkable condition, with a level at the base of neck, is exceptionally rare for a wine of this age, making it both a collector’s treasure and a potentially profound drinking experience.
In the glass, a Port of this maturity would display a deep mahogany core shading to amber and olive-green at the rim, a classic visual signature of great age. …

Blandys, 1880
Malmsey Madeira
Malmsey (also known as Malvasia or Malvazia) has its fermentation halted when its sugars are between 3.5 and 6.5° Baumé. This style of wine is characterised by its dark colour, rich texture, and coffee-caramel flavours. Like other Madeiras made from the noble grape varieties, the Malvasia grape used in Malmsey production has naturally high levels of acidity in the wine, which balances with the high sugar levels so the wines do not taste cloyingly sweet.

Companhia Vinicola da Madeira, 1880
Malmsey 1880, Madeira
The 1880 Companhia Vinícola da Madeira Malmsey is an extraordinary piece of winemaking history, offering more than 140 years of slow, graceful maturation. Malmsey—made from the Malvasia grape—is the richest and most opulent style of Madeira, known for its luscious sweetness balanced by the island’s hallmark vibrant acidity. Produced in the late 19th century, when Madeira was prized on the grand tables of Europe and the Americas, this wine is both a rare collector’s treasure and a testament to the enduring craftsmanship of Madeira’s winemakers.
In the glass, it would display a deep, glowing mahogany core with flashes of amber and green at the rim, a visual hallmark of extreme age. …

Millennium Port 1880 Colheita Port Bottled by Niepoort in 2002, DOC Douro.
MAGNUM 1.5 L
Cristiano van Zeller (ex Quinta do Noval) discovered the 1880 Port in 1999 at a winery in Regua (River Douro) that was closing following the death of the owner. Cristiano was interested in acquiring stone lagares (foot treading tanks) for his new winery but they also asked if he was interested in any old stock. Most was uninteresting but at the rear of the winery were three 20,000 litre casks, two empty but one containing 10,000 litres of 1880 port, 10,000 litres having evaporated during the intervening 119 years. The intention was to bottle the wine as 100 year old (for the millennium) but that …

Henriques and Henriques Madeira, 1878
Sercial Solera 1878, Madeira
The Henriques & Henriques Sercial Solera 1878 is an extraordinary Madeira, representing nearly a century and a half of history in liquid form. Sercial, the driest and most ethereal of Madeira styles, is celebrated for its piercing acidity, citrus-driven aromatics, and remarkable ability to age indefinitely. In the solera system, a portion of the original 1878 wine would have been carefully refreshed over the decades with younger Sercial, creating a continuous thread of the original vintage’s character while layering in complexity from generations of ageing in seasoned oak casks. This bottling is both a rare collector’s treasure and a testament to Madeira’s unique tradition of slow, oxidative maturation. …
