Martinez Vintage Port, 1908

Vintage Port, DOC Douro - Mid Shoulder shipped by Whitwhams wines Ltd

The *1908 Martinez Vintage Port* is a remarkable and rare survivor from one of the great early 20th-century vintages, offering more than 115 years of history in the glass. Produced by the renowned Martinez Port house and shipped by Whitwhams Wines Ltd, this wine was crafted in the traditional manner—foot-trodden in granite lagares and bottled after two years in cask—before beginning its century-long journey of graceful maturation. Bottles from this era, especially in good condition, are exceedingly scarce and highly prized by serious collectors.

In the glass, it would be expected to display a deep mahogany-tawny core, shading to a green-olive rim—an unmistakable sign of great age in fine Port.

Blandys, 1907

Bual, Madeira

Madeira Bual is typically sweeter than Madeira Sercial or Madeira Verdelho, but not quite as intensely sweet as Malmsey. You should expect a light mahogany/copper coloured wine with aromas of maple syrup, roasted walnut notes and hints of coffee. On the palate its high acidity will create a much needed balance against the sweetness making the sugar barely noticeable. Flavours of figs, vanilla and caramel should dominate the palate and the wine should finish off long with caramelised citrus notes.

Leacock's - Malvasia, Madeira

John Leacock sailed to Madeira from the United Kingdom (after the death of his father) in 1741 and at the age of 15 became the youngest apprentice at the firm of Madeira merchants, Catanach and Murdoch staying until his contract expired on 11 March 1749. During his apprenticeship he had been in constant contact with an old school friend, John Patient, residing at that time in Charles Town, South Carolina who suggested that they themselves should commence trading. Leacock agreed and this marks the birth of the now world famous company.

"What an intense wine. Fabulous bouquet of rich, sumptuous caramel. There’s some sweetness here, but rapierlike acidity is underneath.” Wine Spectator

Madeira, 1897

Araujo - Verdelho - bott. Barbeito 560ml Bottle Bottled 2018

Just 53 bottles

This is a rare and limited release of the 1897 Madeira from the Araujo family cellars. The bottles are in perfect condition. There is something ethereal about tasting such a rare vintage. The 1897 Verdelho is very dry as one would expect from this style of Madeira. There is a huge amount happening on the complexity front with some bitter nut skin notes with dried flowers and citrus pith. Although quite dry, this does not come across as too severe. An electric wine that is astonishingly refreshing. Massive finish that goes on and on.

D'Oliveiras Madeira, 1895

Malvasia Madeira

*** 91 Points Wine Advocate ***

"The 1895 Malvasia has an attractive bouquet with notes of orange peel, nougat, marmalade and walnut with noticeable volatility that detracts from its precision. The palate is medium-bodied with a lovely spicy entry with notes of nutmeg, cinnamon, white pepper and shaved ginger. It shows good substance and length, though I detect just a little dryness creeping in on the over-powering finish." The Wine Advocate

Madeira is an extremely rare wine to find being a unique wine produced in the Madeira island. Madeira Island has volcanic soil and sub-tropical climate
