Barolo, 1974
Camerano
Barolo is known as the 'king of wines' and is made from the Nebbiolo grape. Heady aromas of rose, leather, vanilla, cherry, pepper, cranberry, strawberry. Fruits are perfectly knitted with the tannins and acidity. It's a powerful wine but remarkably subtle. Don't underestimate it and certainly serve it with food to show at it's best. Nebbiolo has naturally high tannins and acidity, so it will take on full-flavoured, rich foods no problem at all.

Castel del Monte, 1974
Il Falcone - Rivera - Riserva
Was £89 Clearance | Last Bottle £42.50
Castel del Monte is a DOC of the Puglia wine region in south-eastern Italy. In a region where only a small proportion of vineyards take up the DOC titles to which they are entitled, Castel del Monte is one of the more promising. The 'Castle on the Hill' referred to in the name is precisely that - an octagonal fortification built in the 13th century which overlooks the landscape for miles around. The castle itself has less of a promising future than the wines made in its name, as over the centuries it has been used as a prison, a plague shelter and finally a source of marble and stone for opportunistic locals. …

Les Forts de Latour, 1974
Pauillac (2nd wine of Chateau Latour)
Les Forts de Latour 1974 is the second wine of Château Latour, one of Bordeaux's first-growth estates in the Pauillac appellation. While Château Latour produces world-class wines, the 1974 vintage was notoriously difficult for Bordeaux due to poor weather conditions throughout the growing season, including heavy rain and cool temperatures. As a result, many wines from that year are considered lighter and less age-worthy than those from better vintages. While it may not have the power or longevity of great vintages, it can still offer a fascinating glimpse into the history and craftsmanship of Château Latour. …

A native black grape variety of Northern Italy grown almost exclusively in the provinces of Cuneo and Alessandria in Piedmont. It is relatively easy to cultivate, although it is susceptible to fungal diseases. It ripens before Barbera and Nebbiolo and is often grown in high north-facing sites which would be unsuitable for Nebbiolo. The finest Dolcetto wines come from grapes grown on soils rich with white marls, especially those found on the right bank of the River Tauro. The wines generally are low in tannins and acidity and are usually fruity and fragrant, often with hints of almonds.

Sfursat, 1973
Nino Negri
Clearance Offer - Last Bottle | Was £139 | Now £89
The Sfursat di Valtellina wine is a dry red “Passito” style wine and is made by making wine with dried grapes. The best bunches of Chiavennasca are selected and laid out on specially made mats in aerated purpose-built cellars to dry (similar to the process in Valpolicella for Amarone). The “breva” wind which blows through this region has historically assisted the production of the Sfursat wines. The grapes spend about 3 and a half months drying like this and towards the end of January (once the main winery tasks for the other wines are all finished) the grapes will have lost about 40% of their own weight, the sugars will have concentrated and the signature passito aroma will be present. …
