Description
This 1976 Barbaresco shows a delicate brick-garnet core with a broad tawny rim, displaying the soft transparency and fine sediment typical of a wine of this age. The colour suggests full maturity, with the primary fruit largely faded and tertiary notes now in the foreground.
The nose is classic mature Nebbiolo, refined and complex. Aromas of dried roses, pot-pourri, and autumn leaves are joined by leather, tar, cigar box, and subtle truffle notes. Faint hints of dried red cherry, blood orange peel, balsamic lift, and earthy mushroom emerge with air, creating a layered and elegant aromatic profile.
On the palate, the wine is light to medium-bodied, with delicate, dried red fruit flavours — cherry, cranberry, and strawberry — complemented by savoury elements of cedar, leather, tobacco, and forest floor. Tannins are fully integrated, soft and chalky, while the wine’s remaining acidity provides balance and structure, giving lift and poise to the otherwise gentle profile.
The finish is elegant and persistent, tapering through dried rose, tar, gentle spice, and earthy undertones. Fully mature and fragile, this Barbaresco benefits from careful handling: stand the bottle upright before opening, decant gently to remove sediment, avoid prolonged aeration, and serve lightly cool to fully appreciate its aromatic finesse and refined texture.
