Description
Elio Grasso, 2018 Barolo “Ginestra Casa Maté”
A benchmark single-vineyard Barolo and the flagship wine of Elio Grasso, the 2018 Ginestra Casa Maté is a powerful yet refined expression of Nebbiolo from the heart of Monforte d’Alba.
Tasting Note
The nose is deep and expressive, revealing aromas of ripe red cherry, wild strawberry and blackcurrant, layered with rose petal, liquorice, tar and sweet spice. On the palate, the wine is structured and focused, with vibrant acidity supporting flavours of crimson fruit, dried herbs and mineral earthiness. Firm, finely etched tannins give impressive grip and length, leading to a long, savoury and complex finish.
Food Pairing
Exceptional with slow-braised beef, venison, game dishes, truffle-rich recipes and aged hard cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano or Castelmagno.
Serving & Cellaring
Serve at 16–18°C. Decant for 2–3 hours before drinking. Built for the long term, this wine will cellar confidently for 20–25+ years.
Why We Love It
Ginestra Casa Maté represents Barolo at its most serious and age-worthy — combining power, precision and elegance. A must-have for collectors and Nebbiolo lovers alike.

Reviews
***95/100 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate***
"From a vineyard located across from Gavarini Chiniera, this is a slightly more robust and concentrated wine. The 2018 Barolo Ginestra Casa Mate sources its fruit from a position at a slightly lower elevation with a bigger component of clay in the soils. The south and southeast-facing hillside is also more open to the horizon. These conditions give the Ginestra Casa Mate a broad texture and rich flavors of black and purple fruits. The wine is compact with dense texture that will relax over the next 10 years of age. Best After 2025"
