Description

The Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 1984 Capanna Giuseppe is a historic red wine from Tuscany, Italy. Produced by Capanna, it is made from 100% Sangiovese (Brunello) and reflects the traditional Montalcino style of the 1980s: structured, long-lived, and built for extended bottle aging with slow development of complexity over decades.

Tasting notes:

The 1984 vintage is now fully mature and showing deep tertiary evolution. The nose opens with aromas of dried cherry, sour plum, leather, tobacco leaf, dried rose petals, and forest floor. With aeration, additional layers of spice, earth, balsamic notes, cedar, and faint herbal tones may appear.

On the palate it is evolved, elegant, and fully resolved, with tannins now completely softened and integrated. The natural acidity of Sangiovese still provides structure and freshness, while the fruit has transformed into savory dried-fruit, earthy, and lightly spicy notes. The finish is long, refined, and gently austere, typical of classic aged Brunello from this era.

Serving & food pairing:

Best served at 16–18°C, with very gentle handling and minimal or no decanting.

It pairs well with:

Braised beef (including classic Tuscan cinghiale or brasato)
Roasted veal or lamb
Mushroom risotto
Truffle-based dishes
Aged Pecorino cheeses
