Description
The 1998 Château Climens, 1er Cru Classé Barsac, is a refined sweet white wine from one of the most celebrated estates in Sauternes and Barsac. Nicknamed the “Lord of Barsac,” Climens is renowned for producing wines of elegance, purity and longevity. The 1998 vintage shows remarkable balance, with luscious fruit, fine botrytis character and Barsac’s signature freshness. Drink now or enjoy over the next two decades.
Tasting Notes:
Brilliant golden colour with amber glints. The bouquet is expressive and complex, offering aromas of candied citrus, apricot, honey, almond and a touch of spice. On the palate, layers of marmalade, peach, dried pineapple and acacia honey are lifted by a fine mineral streak and vibrant acidity. Rich yet beautifully balanced, it finishes long and elegant with lingering notes of citrus and honeycomb.
Serving Tips & Storage
Serve lightly chilled (10–12°C) in medium-sized white wine glasses to unlock its aromatic depth. Château Climens pairs wonderfully with foie gras, Roquefort and other blue cheeses, fruit-based desserts, or as a luxurious companion to pâtisserie. Store bottles lying on their side in a cool, dark cellar with stable temperature and humidity. This 1998 vintage is drinking beautifully now but will continue to develop further complexity if well cellared.
Château Climens, classified as a Premier Cru Classé in 1855, sits in Barsac, at the heart of the Sauternes region. The estate, devoted exclusively to Sémillon, is renowned for crafting wines of finesse, aromatic purity and exceptional ageing potential. With a heritage reaching back to the 16th century, Climens has earned its reputation as one of the world’s greatest sweet wine producers, combining terroir, tradition and meticulous winemaking.
